How to Pack Light for Family Trips: Stress-Free Travel with Kids

1. Start with a Packing List

Before you even unzip your suitcase, make a checklist. Trust me, a well-thought-out list prevents overpacking and ensures you don’t forget the essentials. Stick to the basics: clothes, toiletries, travel documents, and must-have kid items like snacks and a comfort toy. Pro tip: If you’re going somewhere with laundry facilities, plan to do a quick wash instead of packing an outfit for each day.

2. Choose Versatile Clothing

For adults, stick to mix-and-match neutrals—think tops and bottoms that can be paired in different ways. For kids, go for lightweight, breathable clothes that can handle spills and playtime. A good rule of thumb? Pack outfits for half the days you’ll be traveling and re-wear! Layering pieces like jackets and cardigans are also key for changing weather conditions.

3. Use Packing Cubes & Vacuum Bags

If you’re not using packing cubes yet, you’re missing out! These little organizers help keep your suitcase neat and maximize space. For bulkier items like jackets, vacuum seal bags are a game-changer. Just roll the air out, and you’ll be amazed at how much space you save! I swear by these vacuum bags I found on TikTok—compact, durable, and perfect for family trips. It also comes with a portable air pump which really makes life easier. Check them out here!

4. Invest in a Reliable Travel Backpack

Dragging multiple suitcases through an airport with kids in tow? No, thank you. I recently started using the Elephant Island Travel Laptop Backpack, and it has been a lifesaver. It’s spacious enough for all our essentials, has multiple compartments for organization, and even fits my laptop securely. Plus, it’s sleek and water-resistant—perfect for family travel. If you need a travel-friendly backpack that won’t weigh you down, this is it! Get yours here.

5. Limit Shoes to One or Two Pairs

Shoes take up SO much space, so be strategic. One comfy walking pair (sneakers or sandals) and one lightweight dressy option (for special occasions) are usually enough. If you're headed to the beach, flip-flops are a must, but they barely take up space.

6. Downsize Toiletries

Instead of bringing full-size bottles, transfer shampoo, conditioner, and lotion into travel-sized containers. Or better yet, use solid toiletries like bar shampoo and conditioner to save space and prevent leaks. If you’re staying at a hotel, you can also rely on their provided toiletries.

7. Go Digital

Skip the heavy guidebooks and opt for travel apps instead. Keep boarding passes, itineraries, and hotel confirmations on your phone. It’s a simple trick that saves a surprising amount of space (and paper)!

8. Pack Smart for Kids

Kids’ stuff can easily fill up an entire suitcase if you’re not careful. To keep things light:

  • Pack a few favorite outfits and plan to wash as needed.

  • Bring multipurpose items, like a scarf that doubles as a blanket.

  • Use collapsible water bottles instead of carrying bulky ones.

  • Pack small travel-friendly toys or books to keep them entertained without adding weight.

9. Ditch the ‘Just in Case’ Mentality

This was a tough one for me to learn! Bringing items “just in case” often leads to overpacking. Unless it’s a necessity (like meds or important documents), you can usually find what you need at your destination.

10. Always Leave Room for Souvenirs

Even if you pack light, you’ll probably pick up some goodies along the way. Leave some extra space in your bag or bring a foldable tote for the trip back home.

Final Thoughts

Packing light for family trips doesn’t mean sacrificing comfort—it means making travel easier and more enjoyable for everyone. With a little planning, the right travel gear (hello, packing cubes, vacuum bags, and a trusty backpack), and a minimalist mindset, you’ll wonder why you ever overpacked in the first place!

If you’re looking for a lightweight and functional travel backpack, I highly recommend the Elephant Island Travel Laptop Backpack—it’s been my go-to for stress-free family adventures. Grab yours here!

Got any packing tips of your own? Drop them in the comments—I’d love to hear how you keep things light and hassle-free on family trips! Happy travels!

Cebu Pacific Reassigns Palawan, Masbate, and Siargao Flights from Manila, Philippines to Clark: What Travelers Need to Know

Manila, Philippines
January 30, 2025

Travelers heading to Palawan, Masbate, and Siargao with Cebu Pacific will soon have a different airport to fly from. In a move to decongest Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and optimize flight operations, Cebu Pacific is relocating its Palawan-bound, Masbate-bound, and Siargao-bound flights from Manila, Philippines to Clark International Airport (CRK) starting March 30, 2025.

This change is part of a broader strategy to shift turboprop operations out of NAIA, following a recent resolution from the Manila Slot Coordination Committee. The shift will affect flights to El Nido, Coron (Busuanga), Masbate, and Siargao, among others, allowing NAIA to allocate more slots for larger jet aircraft.

Why the Change?

NAIA has long been facing congestion issues, with increasing air traffic leading to flight delays and operational challenges. By transferring turboprop flights to Clark, Cebu Pacific aims to:

  • Ease congestion at NAIA and improve airport efficiency.

  • Enhance travel experience by reducing delays caused by traffic buildup.

  • Maximize flight slots for jet aircraft at Manila’s primary gateway.

This move is not just limited to Palawan flights. Other domestic routes, such as Siargao and Masbate, will also see a shift from Manila to Clark under this new setup.

How Does This Affect Passengers?

For travelers used to flying out of NAIA, this reassignment may require a bit of adjustment, particularly in terms of travel time to the airport. However, Clark International Airport is becoming a strong alternative hub, offering modern facilities, shorter queues, and an improved passenger experience.

Cebu Pacific has assured passengers that those affected by the transfer will be given options, including:

  • Rebooking flights at no additional cost if they prefer to adjust their travel plans.

  • Full refunds for those who no longer wish to travel.

  • Options to reroute through Manila if applicable.

Is Flying from Clark a Good Alternative?

While some travelers might find Clark a bit farther than NAIA, it does come with benefits:

  • Less crowded terminals compared to Manila.

  • Modernized facilities and a more relaxed airport experience.

  • Convenient transport options, including point-to-point (P2P) buses from Metro Manila to Clark.

With ongoing infrastructure improvements and growing airline operations, Clark is shaping up to be a more viable gateway for domestic and international travelers.

Final Thoughts

The reassignment of Cebu Pacific’s Palawan, Masbate, and Siargao flights from Manila, Philippines to Clark is a major shift aimed at improving airport efficiency and overall passenger experience. While it may take time for some travelers to adjust, this move is expected to ease congestion at NAIA and create better flight management for both local and international routes.

For those planning trips to El Nido, Coron, Masbate, Siargao, or other destinations, now’s the time to check your flights and make necessary adjustments. Keep an eye out for Cebu Pacific’s announcements regarding this transition, and if you’re affected, take advantage of the available rebooking or refund options.

Book Smart and Save on Travel

If you’re flying to Palawan or any other destination, make sure to book your flights and accommodations early! Check Agoda for the best hotel deals and use Klook for discounted activities and tours. Use my Klook promo code VADIARIESKLOOK to save on your next booking!

How to Save Money While Traveling: Hacks from VA Diaries Meets World

Traveling is one of life’s greatest joys, but let’s be real—it can get expensive fast! Flights, accommodations, food, attractions, and even little things like souvenirs add up quickly. But don’t worry! Over the years, I’ve learned some budget-friendly travel hacks that will help you explore the world without breaking the bank. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or an international adventure, these tips will make sure you travel smart and save big!

1. Book Accommodations and Activities in Advance

One of the biggest travel mistakes is waiting until the last minute to book hotels and attractions. Prices tend to skyrocket the closer you get to your travel date. To avoid this, book your stays early on Agoda, where you can find discounted hotel rates, especially when using promo codes!

Save more: Check out my Agoda affiliate link to get the best rates on hotels and accommodations. Don’t forget to compare prices before booking!

2. Use Klook for Discounted Tours and Activities

Instead of paying full price at ticket counters, I always check Klook for deals on tours, theme parks, and local attractions. Klook often has exclusive discounts, bundle deals, and cashback offers that you won’t find elsewhere.

💡 Pro tip: Use my Klook affiliate link and enter the promo code VADIARIESKLOOK at checkout to get an extra discount on your bookings!

3. Travel During Off-Peak Season

Want to save money on flights and hotels? Avoid peak travel months like December, Holy Week, and summer break. Traveling during off-peak seasons means you’ll find cheaper airfare, discounted accommodations, and fewer crowds at top attractions.

4. Be Flexible with Flights

Flights can take up a huge chunk of your budget, but you can save big if you’re flexible with your travel dates. Try these tricks:

  • Use flight comparison sites like Skyscanner and Google Flights to find the cheapest days to fly.

  • Book flights on weekdays (Tuesdays and Wednesdays are usually the cheapest!).

  • Consider budget airlines and pack light to avoid baggage fees.

5. Take Public Transportation

Skip expensive taxis and ride-sharing services—public transportation is way cheaper and gives you a more authentic experience. Many cities offer affordable travel passes for tourists, making it easy to explore without draining your budget.

6. Choose Local Eats Over Tourist Traps

One of my favorite parts of traveling is trying local food. Instead of dining at touristy restaurants (which are often overpriced), try street food, night markets, or small local eateries. Not only will you save money, but you’ll also get a more authentic taste of the destination!

7. Look for Free Attractions and Activities

Not everything fun has to cost money! Many cities have free attractions, like:

  • Public parks

  • Museums with free entrance days

  • Walking tours

  • Beautiful beaches

Research your destination in advance and make the most of these free experiences!

8. Travel with Friends or Family

If you’re traveling with a group, you can split costs on accommodations, transportation, and even food. Renting an Airbnb instead of booking multiple hotel rooms is often cheaper for families or groups.

9. Bring Your Own Travel Essentials

Avoid overpriced items at tourist spots by packing smart. Bring your own reusable water bottle, snacks, power bank, and travel-sized toiletries to avoid unnecessary spending.

10. Earn Cashback and Rewards

If you love traveling, make sure to use credit cards that offer travel rewards or cashback on bookings. Some travel platforms also have loyalty programs that give you discounts the more you book.

Final Thoughts

Traveling on a budget doesn’t mean sacrificing experiences. With the right planning and smart spending, you can enjoy amazing trips without overspending.

📌 Before you book your next adventure, make sure to check out Agoda and Klook for the best travel deals. Use my Klook promo code VADIARIESKLOOK to save even more!

Traveling with Kids: My Best Tips for Stress-Free Family Trips

Traveling with kids can be a mix of joy and chaos. While family vacations are filled with memories that last a lifetime, they also come with their fair share of challenges—meltdowns, packing disasters, and the constant need for snacks. As a parent who’s no stranger to these adventures, I’ve learned a few tricks along the way. Here are my best tips to help you plan and enjoy a stress-free family trip, no matter where your next destination takes you!

1. Plan Ahead, But Stay Flexible

The key to a successful family trip is a good plan, but flexibility is just as important.

Create a rough itinerary: Map out your travel days, major attractions, and meal stops. However, leave room for breaks and unplanned adventures.

Involve your kids in the planning: Letting them choose an activity or destination gives them something to look forward to and keeps them excited about the trip.

Expect delays: Whether it’s a traffic jam or a missed nap, having extra time built into your schedule can save you from unnecessary stress.

2. Pack Smart and Light

Packing for kids can be overwhelming, but overpacking isn’t the answer.

Stick to the essentials: Bring enough clothes for a few days, then plan to do laundry if needed.

Pack a kid’s travel bag: Include snacks, a water bottle, small toys, books, and anything else that will keep them entertained during travel.

Don’t forget medicine and travel-size toiletries: It’s better to have them and not need them than to scramble to find a pharmacy in an unfamiliar place.

3. Book Family-Friendly Accommodations

Finding the right place to stay can make or break your trip.

Look for hotels or rentals with family-friendly amenities like spacious rooms, pools, or play areas.

Check reviews for mentions of kid-friendly services or environments.

If you’re booking online, use trusted platforms like Klook and Agoda to score deals on accommodations. I recommend using my affiliate links below to find budget-friendly stays without compromising comfort.

For AGODA booking discounts please use my Agoda affiliate link : https://www.agoda.com/partners/partnersearch.aspx?pcs=1&cid=1934508

For Klook Booking:

https://affiliate.klook.com/redirect?aid=65341&aff_adid=889961&k_site=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.klook.com%2F

Use Klook Code VADIARIESKLOOK on any hotels, Air fare flights, car rentals, transportation, tours and activities to get up to 300 pesos discount with up to 5 times usage. No minimum spend.

4. Pre-Book Activities and Tickets

Save yourself the hassle of waiting in long lines or dealing with sold-out attractions.

Pre-book tickets to theme parks, museums, or tours through apps like Klook. Not only will you save time, but you can also take advantage of discounted rates.

Use my Klook promo code VADIARIESKLOOK to save even more on family-friendly activities like amusement parks, guided tours, and outdoor adventures.

5. Snacks Are Your Best Friend

Hungry kids are grumpy kids, and no parent wants to deal with a hangry meltdown while sightseeing.

Pack portable snacks: Think crackers, dried fruit, granola bars, or small sandwiches.

Keep them accessible: Store snacks in a separate bag or pocket for easy access during transit.

Don’t forget water bottles to keep everyone hydrated!

6. Choose PWD and Kid-Friendly Destinations

If you’re traveling with a family member with special needs or younger kids, prioritize destinations that cater to their comfort.

Many theme parks, like Enchanted Kingdom, offer express passes for PWDs and their companions, which can save you a lot of time.

Destinations like Burnham Park in Baguio or Tagaytay’s Picnic Grove are great for outdoor fun and offer plenty of space for kids to run around.

7. Keep Travel Days Simple

Whether you’re traveling by plane, train, or car, make the journey as stress-free as possible.

Bring a lightweight stroller or baby carrier if you have young children.

Prepare a “travel kit” with everything you’ll need in transit, including snacks, entertainment, and extra clothes.

Take frequent breaks during long trips to let the kids stretch, especially if you’re driving.

8. Capture Memories, But Be Present

It’s tempting to take a million photos and videos, but don’t forget to enjoy the moment.

Designate a few minutes for taking pictures, then put your phone away and fully immerse yourself in the experience.

Encourage your kids to keep a travel journal or draw pictures of their favorite moments.

9. Prioritize Rest and Downtime

Family trips can be exhausting for everyone, especially kids.

Stick to a routine whenever possible, such as keeping bedtime consistent.

Schedule downtime between activities to let everyone recharge. Sometimes, a quiet afternoon at the hotel pool is just what you need.

10. Save Money Without Sacrificing Fun

Traveling with kids doesn’t have to break the bank.

Look for free or low-cost activities, like parks, beaches, or local markets.

Book accommodations and activities early to get the best deals.

Take advantage of discounts by using my Agoda affiliate link for accommodations and Klook promo code VADIARIESKLOOK for activities. These small savings can add up, leaving more room in your budget for souvenirs or an extra treat for the kids.

Traveling with kids may come with challenges, but the memories you create together are worth every effort. By planning ahead, staying flexible, and using these tips to save time and money, you can enjoy a stress-free and unforgettable family adventure.

How to Plan the Perfect Family Trip: A Guide for Stress-Free Adventures

Planning a family trip can be both exciting and overwhelming. From choosing accommodations to ensuring every family member—kids and adults alike—has a great time, it takes a bit of strategy to pull off. But don’t worry! In this blog, I’ll share my tried-and-tested tips to help you organize a smooth, budget-friendly, and memorable vacation. Plus, I’ll include money-saving tips using my AGODA affiliate link and Klook promo code VADIARIESKLOOK to make your trip lighter on your wallet!

1. Choose Budget-Friendly Accommodations

The first step to a successful family trip is finding accommodations that are both comfortable and affordable. Look for family-friendly hotels or resorts with amenities like:

Spacious rooms or suites

Kids' play areas or pools

Seniors and PWD-friendly features if needed

For example, during our stay in Tagaytay, we booked through Klook to find deals on family-friendly hotels like Canyon Woods, which offered cozy rooms and great amenities. Booking through my affiliate links in Agoda or in Klook not only gives you access to competitive rates but also helps you discover exclusive discounts for families.

Canyon Woods Viewing Deck

Canyon Woods Lake at the Pavillion

Canyon Woods Superior Room Accommodation

Canyon Woods Outdoor Pool

Canyon Woods Billiards Table at the Club house

Play land area at the Pavillion of Canyon Woods

2. Plan a Flexible Itinerary

Flexibility is key when traveling with family. Kids (and sometimes adults!) can get tired, so your schedule should include a mix of activities and rest periods. Here’s how to structure your day:

Start with something light and relaxing, like a stroll at Camp John Hay in Baguio or a morning visit to Picnic Grove in Tagaytay.

Plan fun activities like horseback riding, but have a backup plan in case they need a break.

End your day with a family-friendly restaurant or a relaxed sightseeing activity.

Pro Tip: Booking activities ahead of time can save you money and reduce stress. Use Klook to pre-book attractions like Enchanted Kingdom or other  guided tours. Don’t forget to apply my Klook promo code VADIARIESKLOOK for additional savings!

3. Save on Tickets and Activities

Family travel can be expensive, but there are ways to save without sacrificing fun.

Pre-book attractions and tours on Klook. This not only helps you skip long lines but also unlocks exclusive online discounts.

Use promo codes! Apply VADIARIESKLOOK at checkout for added savings. For instance, when we visited Enchanted Kingdom, booking our tickets through Klook saved us a significant amount compared to buying onsite.

Take advantage of package deals. Look for bundles that include entrance tickets, meals, or extra perks for a better overall price.

4. Travel Off-Peak to Maximize Savings

If possible, plan your trip during off-peak seasons. Accommodations, transportation, and attractions are often more affordable during these times. This is especially helpful for destinations like Boracay or Tagaytay, where peak seasons can significantly increase costs.

Booking early through platforms like AGODA and Klook can also help secure the best deals before prices go up.

5. Pack Smart and Save on Extras

Packing strategically can save you from spending on unnecessary items during your trip. Here are some essentials to consider:

Snacks and water bottles to avoid overpriced food at attractions.

Entertainment for the kids, like books, toys, or gadgets, especially for long car rides or flights.

Travel-sized toiletries and extra clothes to minimize laundry expenses.

If you’re heading to a theme park like Enchanted Kingdom, bringing your own stroller can save you from renting one onsite.

6. Prioritize Seniors and PWD and Family-Friendly Destinations

When traveling with a family member with special needs, choose destinations that cater to Seniors, PWDs and families. For example:

Enchanted Kingdom offers an express pass for PWDs and one companion, which is perfect for saving time.

Resorts and attractions with accessibility features, like ramps and spacious walkways, make the trip smoother and more enjoyable for everyone.

7. Capture Priceless Moments Without Spending Extra

Family trips are all about creating memories. While professional photo ops at some attractions can be tempting, you can capture just as many beautiful moments with your phone or camera.

Take candid shots while exploring places like Burnham Park or Mirador Eco Park.

Use free scenic spots like viewing decks or natural backdrops for stunning family photos.

8. Use Travel Apps to Stay Organized and Save

Maximize your savings and convenience by using travel apps.
