Japan’s New Tourist Visa Application Process for Filipinos: What You Need to Know

Big news for Filipinos planning a trip to Japan! Starting April 7, 2025, the Japan Visa Application Centre (JVAC) will officially handle all tourist visa applications. This means no more going through accredited travel agencies—instead, everything will be processed directly through JVAC.

The goal? To make the visa application process smoother, more efficient, and accessible.

What’s Changing?

Before, you had to apply through accredited travel agencies, but from April 7 onwards, all applications must go through JVAC. This change is expected to speed up processing times and improve service quality for Filipino travelers.

Where Can You Apply?

JVAC will have five locations across the Philippines:

  • ParaƱaque City
  • Makati City
  • Quezon City
  • Cebu City
  • Davao City

Application Fees

  • Visa Fee: For Philippine nationals applying for a temporary visitor visa, no visa fee is required.Cebu Daily News+1VFS Global+1
  • JVAC Processing Fee: PHP 520 per application.
  • All payments must be made at the time of application.

All payments must be made at the time of application.

Important Reminder: No More Travel Agencies

If you’re used to applying through an accredited travel agency, take note: they will no longer accept applications after April 6, 2025. So, if you’re planning a trip, make sure to follow the new process to avoid delays!

What You Need to Prepare

To make your application as smooth as possible, here are the key documents you’ll need:

Visa Application Form – Make sure it’s filled out properly in English.
Recent Passport-Sized Photo – Must be taken within the last 6 months, 45×35mm with a white background.
Valid Passport – Should have at least 6 months validity and at least two blank pages.
Bank Certificate – Showing your average daily balance for 6 months or total amount for the past year.
Income Tax Return (ITR) – Form 2316, signed by both you and your employer.
Certificate of Employment – Must include your job position, salary, and company contact details.

For business owners, additional documents like tax payment proof may be required. Be sure to double-check the official requirements before applying!

This new process is a big shift, but it’s designed to make getting a Japan visa easier and more efficient. If you’re planning a trip to Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, or anywhere else in Japan, take note of these changes so you can avoid any last-minute surprises.
